A Case Study of Library Automation and Digital Transformation at the MBA Library of R.G. Kedia College of Commerce, Hyderabad

Abstract

Academic libraries are increasingly part of digital transformation and automation, which can improve access to information and the efficiency of routine activities. This case study examines the implementation of the Koha Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) and associated digital transformation initiatives in the MBA Library of R.G. Kedia College of Commerce, Hyderabad. A case study design using primary and secondary data was adopted. Primary data comprised direct observation and semi-structured interactions/interviews with library staff, students, and faculty members; secondary data comprised accession records, circulation statistics, OPAC transaction reports, E-Gate visitor records, annual library reports, institutional records, and electronic-resource usage information such as DELNET and J-Gate. Institutional records were selected because they directly documented the services and operational indicators examined. The documented circulation figures increased from 406 transactions in January–December 2024 (pre-automation period) to 728 transactions in January–December 2025 (post-automation period), an increase of 79.31%. E-Gate records show an average of 1,691 student visits per month after implementation. The revised methodology explicitly distinguishes record-based evidence from user-perception claims. Because the source manuscript does not contain a completed structured survey dataset, no numerical user-satisfaction result or statistical inference is claimed. The study concludes that the integrated automation environment supported more systematic circulation, catalogue access, reporting, and digital-resource access, while continued staff training, infrastructure improvement, user orientation, and structured evaluation are recommended.
